Embracing Healing: Letting Go of the Past to Embrace Your Present

In the journey of personal growth and healing, one of the most transformative steps is learning how to leave the past behind. As an energy healer and hypnotist, I’ve witnessed firsthand the incredible power individuals possess to release the burdens of their past and step into a brighter, more fulfilling present. In this article, I’ll share profound insights and practical techniques to help you break free from the chains of your past and embrace the beauty of the present moment.

Traditional talk therapy has you regurgitating your life experiences. You just keep vomiting up your trauma, drama and tragedies over and over and over and over and over and over and over again. I firmly believe that little, if any, good comes from this nonsensical methodology.

As a hypnotist, my practice revolves around metaphors. Metaphors are how one taps in to another’s unconscious mind. Consciously, I use metaphors to lead you to an epiphany. I will utilize a metaphor to put this into perspective for you:  If you and I are in a car, and I am the driver, and I turn around to face backwards, what’s going to happen? We’re going to crash, right? Every.single.time. without fail- it is inevitable. It’s the same way with your life. All you’re doing is reliving your misery and focusing your thoughts, emotions and energy on what you don’t want.

What you dwell upon manifests itself. Backward facing regurgitation of one’s misery keeps you stuck there. I honestly believe that it is an intentional effort to maintain control over society as a whole… but that is another story that we will get into another time.

My goal as a hypnotist is to get you forward facing and focused on what you DO want. When you start focusing your thoughts, your emotions, your energy, and most importantly your frequency on what you do want… that’s what starts to happen for you. You are, quite literally, the creator of your own reality.

I spend a lot of time in a car, so please forgive me if I use the car scenario often. I explain it to people like this: If we are riding down the road, and we’re listening to some sappy country station and the guy is singing about his woman done left him and she’s screwing the next door neighbor and he’s crying in his beer… that gives us a feeling, right? Now we are in a funk. It puts us in a dreary mood. Now we go throughout our day spreading that dreariness to others, putting them on our low frequency. But if we were to change the station to,  say, a Puerto Rican dance music station… now we’re bobbing our heads and feeling a lively, joyous party vibe. Now, as we go throughout our day, that is the frequency we’re on. As a result, that is the energy others are feeling from us. The following is a guide to get you where you’d like to be.

Understanding the Weight of the Past: Before we delve into the process of letting go, it’s crucial to understand why holding onto the past can be so detrimental to our well-being. The past often manifests as regrets, resentments, or unresolved traumas, creating a heavy burden that weighs us down and prevents us from experiencing true joy and fulfillment. Whether it’s a painful breakup, a traumatic event, or persistent feelings of inadequacy, the past has a way of lingering in our minds, shaping our beliefs, and influencing our actions.

Acknowledge Your Feelings: The first step in letting go of the past is acknowledging and accepting your feelings. Suppressing or denying emotions only prolongs the healing process. Allow yourself to feel whatever emotions arise—whether it’s anger, sadness, or grief. By giving yourself permission to experience these emotions fully, you create space for healing to occur.

Practice Self-Compassion: Self-compassion is a powerful antidote to the lingering effects of the past. Treat yourself with the same kindness and understanding that you would offer to a friend facing similar challenges. Acknowledge that you are human, and it’s okay to make mistakes or experience pain. Cultivating self-compassion allows you to release self-judgment and embrace forgiveness, both for yourself and others.

Release Resentment and Forgiveness: Resentment towards others or yourself only perpetuates the cycle of suffering. Holding onto grudges keeps you tethered to the past, preventing you from moving forward. Practice forgiveness as a radical act of self-love and liberation. This doesn’t mean condoning or forgetting past actions but rather choosing to release the emotional attachment to them. Forgiveness is a gift you give yourself, freeing your heart from bitterness and opening the door to inner peace.

Shift Your Perspective: The past is not a fixed reality but rather a story we tell ourselves based on our interpretations and perceptions. By reframing your perspective, you can change the narrative of your past and reclaim your power. Instead of viewing past challenges as obstacles, see them as opportunities for growth and learning. Recognize the strength and resilience you’ve gained from overcoming adversity, and trust in your ability to create a brighter future.

Practice Mindfulness: Mindfulness is a powerful tool for releasing the grip of the past and anchoring yourself in the present moment. By cultivating awareness of your thoughts, feelings, and sensations without judgment, you create space for healing and transformation. Whenever you find yourself dwelling on the past, gently redirect your focus to the present moment. Engage in mindfulness practices such as meditation, deep breathing, or grounding exercises  to anchor yourself in the here and now.

Set Boundaries: Creating healthy boundaries is essential for protecting your emotional well-being and preventing past wounds from resurfacing. Identify any triggers or toxic relationships that perpetuate negative patterns from the past, and establish clear boundaries to safeguard your peace of mind. Surround yourself with supportive individuals who uplift and inspire you on your journey of healing. Learn to say NO with the same compassion for yourself as you’ve traditionally used in saying YES in compassion for others.

Release Attachments: Attachment to the past keeps us stuck in a loop of longing and dissatisfaction. Whether it’s clinging to past relationships, possessions, or identities, letting go of attachments is essential for moving forward. Practice detachment by releasing the need for external validation and finding fulfillment within yourself. Trust in the flow of life and embrace the beauty of impermanence, knowing that new opportunities and experiences await when you release what no longer serves you.
